A.A.S. Degree (D,G,W)

The mission of the Human Services program is to provide students with an educational foundation which will allow them to successfully gain entry level employment within the human services arena and/or to succeed in continuing their education at a baccalaureate level upon graduation. The curriculum and individual courses consist of a balance between providing students with a strong theoretical and content foundation as well as an experiential, skill development component in order to prepare students to continue their education and/or to allow them to interface competently and ethically with clients and colleagues in a career setting.

The Human Services program at the Dover, Georgetown, and Wilmington Campuses are accredited by the Council for Standards in Human Service Education (CSHSE). The regional offices are located at 3337 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314-5219,[phone] and the web site is http://www.cshse.org.

Program Graduate Competencies

The Program Graduate Competencies listed below identify the major learning goals related to your specific program of study and identify the knowledge and skills you will have when you graduate to be successful in your chosen field.

1. Create and maintain effective and professional documents relevant to Human Services agencies.
2. Interact ethically and professionally within the Human Services field.
3. Apply information to identify client?s strengths, weaknesses, and resources to create a treatment plan.
4. Provide effective client services at an entry level by utilizing professional Human Services principles and practices.
5. Establish effective working relationships within the Human Services arena.
6. Apply basic management and leadership skills in Human Services environments, including time management, organization, and the ability to follow directions.
7. Utilize feedback to assess the effect of oneself on Human Services outcomes and make adjustments accordingly.

Core Curriculum Competencies

PROGRAM SPECIFIC ADVISEMENT STATEMENT

Delaware Tech does not apply blanket age limits to courses for the purposes of transfer in, meeting selective admission programs' ranking/entrance procedures, or meeting program requirements for award completion. There is a 10 year age limit on HMS 244 which can be applied to program completion for the Human Services program.

To complete program requirements, you must pass the above courses and earn at least 62 credits. The number of courses and credits required for graduation may be more depending on your need for developmental education courses and the elective choices you make (if electives are a part of the program). Some programs also have college-level courses that you must take if you do not score at a certain level on the College Placement Test. If this applies to your program, the courses are listed at the top of the sequence sheet before the first semester of the course list.
