Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs)

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Demonstrate medical assistant clinical skills.
    1. Identify body systems including the blood, lymphatic and immune, nervous, urinary, reproductive, digestive, and endocrine systems.
    2. List major organs in each body system including the blood, lymphatic and immune, nervous, urinary, reproductive, digestive, and endocrine systems.
    3. Identify the anatomical location of major organs in each body system including the blood, lymphatic and immune, nervous, urinary, reproductive, digestive, and endocrine systems
    4. Discuss the structure and function of the human body across the life span.
    5. Describe the normal function of each body system including the blood, lymphatic and immune, nervous, urinary, reproductive, digestive, and endocrine systems.
    6. Identify common pathology related to each body system, including signs, symptoms, etiology, diagnostic measures, and treatment modalities for the blood, lymphatic and immune, nervous, urinary, reproductive, digestive, and endocrine systems.
    7. Identify basic principles of first aid.
    8. Identify quality assurance practices in healthcare.
    9. Demonstrate how to measure and record blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, height, weight, oxygen saturation.
    10. Demonstrate venipuncture and capillary puncture.
    11. Show and prepare a patient for a procedure or a treatment.
    12. Assist provider with a patient exam.
    13. Demonstrate quality control measures.
    14. Demonstrate the CLIA-waived hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, and microbiology testing.
    15. Provide up-to-date documentation of provider/professional level CPR.
    16. Perform first aid procedures for bleeding, diabetic coma or insulin shock, stroke, seizures, environmental emergency, and syncope.
    17. Record laboratory test results into the patient's record.
    18. Explain and coach patients regarding medical encounters.
    19. Define medical terms and abbreviations related to the body systems including blood, lymphatic and immune, nervous, urinary, reproductive, digestive, and endocrine systems.
    20. Demonstrate documentation patient care accurately in the medical record.
  2. Demonstrate infection control as required in a clinical medical office.
    1. Discuss surgical asepsis as practiced within an ambulatory care setting.
    2. Select appropriate barrier/personal protective equipment (PPE).
    3. Demonstrate handwashing.
    4. Prepare items for autoclaving.
    5. Perform sterilization procedures.
    6. Prepare a sterile field.
    7. Assist a healthcare provider with a procedure in a sterile field.
    8. Demonstrate wound care.
    9. Demonstrate dressing change.
    10. Identify critical elements of an emergency plan for response to a natural disaster or other emergency.
    11. Identify the physical manifestations and emotional behaviors on persons involved in an emergency.
  3. Demonstrate behavioral skills as applied to a medical assistant in a clinical medical office.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F
