Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs)

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Interpret dental health needs of a community through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs.
    1. Evaluate dental health needs of the community.
    2. Develop appropriate program to meet the needs of the community.
    3. Prepare for and participate in implementation of a community program.
    4. Evaluate the effectiveness of program in providing and achieving dental health.
  2. Apply the principles related to dental health education and program planning.
    1. Employ appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation methods for community programs.
    2. Produce programmatic goals and objectives based on need, originality, acceptability, and resources.
    3. Prepare and present one community site program to class.
    4. Prepare a summary of the implementation and evaluation of the community project plan.
    5. Prepare and present the results of the community project plan.
  3. Appraise each community site experience through a written journal summarizing participation experience, strengths, weaknesses, recommendations for improvement, and personal and professional growth.
    1. Prepare a site proposal and reflective journal entry for each community site experience.
    2. Evaluate and participate in group discussions relating to each experience during seminar.
  4. Analyze public awareness of oral health care issues.
    1. Identify and make recommendations that would enhance the dental program and attitudes and behavior of the personnel and patient or site.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F

  3. Provide dental hygiene care in a safe manner.
  4. Utilizing self-assessment skills, evaluate clinical performance and the effectiveness of dental hygiene treatment.
  5. Accurately document information related to dental hygiene care through proper record keeping.
  6. Recognize and manage the professional and ethical issues of dental hygiene practice in a dynamic environment.
