Course Description

This course introduces established and evolving methodologies for the analysis, design, and development of solutions for information systems. Emphasis is given to system characteristics, managing projects, prototyping, and systems development life cycle phases.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

    1. Explain the stages of system development life cycle (SDLC).
    2. Conduct a needs assessment to design a system.
    3. Formulate a plan to implement the system based on the needs assessment.
    4. Write a design proposal for the system.
    5. Develop the scope of the project.
  2. Apply industry-specific project management skills to implement the system design.
    1. Describe industry-specific project management skills.
    2. Prepare deliverables specifications that are within the scope of the project.
    3. Document the progress of the stages of a project.
  3. Evaluate and apply a working system using a project plan.
    1. Analyze the system design for potential problems.
    2. Generate a plan to address potential problems.
    3. Create a working system using design proposal.
    4. Prepare documentation for developing and maintaining the system.
    5. Assess the working system.
    6. Defend the design of the system.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F
