Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs)

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Analyze dental hygiene care plans needed to treat patients from a full spectrum of patient populations, exhibiting varying states of medical and oral health conditions.
    1. Identify a variety of dental indices.
    2. Discuss diverse populations and their community dental needs.
  2. Examine the principals related to dental health education and program planning.
    1. Define community health, dental public health, and epidemiology, and explain their relationship to local, state, national, and international boundaries.
    2. Define dental health education, disease prevention, and health prevention, and explain their relationship to an individual or community approach.
    3. Apply appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation methods for community based dental health programs.
    4. Debate the principles of fluoridation.
  3. Assess dental hygiene program plans for a diverse population.
    1. Develop programmatic goals and objectives for individual dental related projects based on need, originality, acceptability, and resources.
    2. Identify a problem in the community.
    3. Design a program plan to alleviate the problem.
  4. Evaluate professional journal articles.
    1. Interpret the data, statistics, and significance of a research or literature review article.
    2. Prepare a table clinic based on scientific knowledge and a bibliography that contains appropriate and current citations from professional literature.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F

  4. Utilizing self-assessment skills, evaluate clinical performance and the effectiveness of dental hygiene treatment.
  5. Accurately document information related to dental hygiene care through proper record keeping.
  6. Recognize and manage the professional and ethical issues of dental hygiene practice in a dynamic environment.
