Course Description

This course provides an opportunity for students to apply and combine classroom and laboratory knowledge to actual work experiences. Its focus is a supervised work experience for students to gain knowledge and experience with the horticulture industry.

  2. Use construction and installation techniques as related to the turf and horticulture industry.   (CCC 1, 2, 3, 5, 6; PGC 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
  3. Employ irrigation systems used in the turf and horticulture industry. (CCC 1, 2, 5; PGC 1, 2, 4, 5)

Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs)

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Apply technical skills needed in the turf and horticulture industry based on placement setting.
    1. Demonstrate proper safety management techniques used in the turf and horticulture industry.
    2. Practice common maintenance tasks involved with turf and horticulture.
    3. Manage pests and diseases found in the turf and horticulture industry.
    4. Select proper care and maintenance techniques of horticulture plant production.
  2. Use construction and installation techniques as related to the turf and horticulture industry.
    1. Practice skills necessary to condition and prepare soils for plant materials.
    2. Demonstrate care and maintenance of establishing turfgrass.
    3. Employ irrigation systems used in the horticulture industry.
    4. Practice proper irrigation methods as related to the turf and horticulture industry.
    5. Operate remote control valves and automatic controllers.
  3. Employ irrigation systems used in the turf and horticulture industry.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F
